Hook Mason were approached by Usk Town Council to assist them with the design for a plinth and interpretation board to celebrate the work of Alfred Russel Wallace, the great Victorian naturalist and explorer whose work sits alongside that of Charles Darwin on the theory of evolution through natural selection. Working in conjunction with the Local Authority, consent was obtained for the installation in the historic town square. Following completion of the works, the official unveiling was performed by Bill Bailey who is not only famous as a comedian but was one of the leading authorities on the work of Alfred Russel Wallace and Patron of the WMF.
